getting some culture
Today was interesting, we did a lot more people watching because of the places we went. First, this morning there was hardly anyone around since it was Sunday morning at 9am…so we went to the Globe Theatre, which is a Shakespeare commemorative place. They rebuilt the theatre exactly as it had been, but it is not in exactly the same spot it was in before.
Then, we crossed the London Bridge finally, even though I learned that it isn’t the original one…but that’s ok, it’s still a sweet looking bridge. We wandered around the city some more and it was still pretty dead, but we eventually made it to an area where there was a bunch of seating and bunch of cafes. I have learned that there are a lot of places where you can get sandwiches, wraps, salads, etc. and mix and match with sides and desserts. I have usually been going for a sandwich and chips, so today I decided to treat myself with a new type of sandwich (which was delicious..don’t remember what it was…) and then a chocolate mousse cup. Basically a cup of chocolate pudding, but mousse sounds fancier.
Then there was a market that had a whole bunch of stands with t-shirts, necklaces, dresses, some food, even shoes…I kind of wanted to buy a necklace but couldn’t find one that I really wanted. Even over here there seem to be owls on jewelry like crazy! There was a lion necklace…I should have just bought it, but I couldn’t find the price and wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to know since it wasn’t posted. That is usually a bad sign here, otherwise cheap things are really obviously advertised.
We did some more wandering, then took the tube home, and went to a souvenir shop for the first time for me! I got a cute little keychain that has three charms on it, the British flag, one saying “Strawberry Field” and another with “Penny Lane.” I also got a shot glass commemorating the Olympics, and a couple postcards.
